Extended Phase 1
Phase 1 habitat surveys are a technique for environmental audit and a system of habitat classification that is widely recognised within environmental and planning disciplines.
A Phase 1 Ecology survey, also known as an ecological scoping survey or habitat assessment, is often the minimum level of ecological survey required to accompany a successful planning application.
Phase 1 surveys identify the potential for protected species within the site and record invasive species or any other significant ecological interest within a site and the surrounding area. The resulting report details the potential for the proposed works to have an impact on ecology and protected species. In some cases, further species-specific surveys will be recommended in order to assess the use of the site by legally protected species.
