Carrying out a PiCUS investigation from a MEWP
TMA were employed to help assess the level of decay in a large plane tree growing near a busy road. One of the stems is hollow, and we used our specialist PiCUS decay detection equipment to determine how much sound wood remained, and make recommendations for the future management of the tree. The area requiring testing is several metres above ground level, so a mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) was also required. The test revealed a good proportion of sound wood remains, and the tree can be retained with appropriate tree surgery.
