and code for
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) and CSH (Code for Sustainable Homes) are important tools for assessing the environmental sustainability of new developments and refurbishments of existing buildings.
Credits are awarded against various sustainability categories and in some cases developments are required to achieve a minimum standard. Land use and ecology are key elements of the assessments. An ecology survey will enable calculation the ecological value of the site and inform any protection or enhancements required. Assessment by a Suitably Qualified Ecologist maximises the final BREEAM or CSH score for new developments.
A BREEAM/CSH survey undertaken at an early stage, before site clearance, will enable the maximum number of credits to be achieved. In some cases savings can be made by combining the BREEAM/CSH survey with a Phase 1 Ecology Survey.
