CHALLENGES

THE OUTCOME

ECOLOGY

CHALLENGES

Completion of the bat licence application including design and implementation of suitable mitigation features prior to building demolition.

The timing of building demolition is constrained by the presence of bats.

New bat roosts formed whilst the buildings were left empty.

Retention of important bat commuting corridors (hedgerows) was in conflict with the preferred landscaping, which sought to remove hedgerows to provide views.

THE OUTCOME

Common pipistrelle bats were successfully relocated from the buildings on site prior to demolition.

The number of bats requiring removal was minimised by undertaking the works during November.

Site demolition and construction were able to proceed to the desired programme.
