TMA Ecology Project Shortlisted for Green Leaders Award
A TMA Ecology project has been shortlisted as Ecosystem Project of the Year at the Business Green Leaders of the Year Awards 2016.
The project, at Thatcham Reedbeds nature reserve in Berkshire, provided improved water supply to protect the population of the internationally rare Desmoulin’s Whorl Snail (Vertigo moulinsiana). The snail requires damp conditions and the Thatcham site supports one of the most extensive populations in the UK.
TMA undertook ecological surveys and provided on-site supervision of engineering works to ensure that protected species such as otters, great crested newts and reptiles were not adversely impacted during the works.
The project, led by the Optimise joint venture on behalf of Thames Water, included the installation of a pipeline and flow controls to adjust the levels of water entering the nature reserve during times of drought.
